Who doesn’t love dogs?
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about dogs on the beach. I am very happy with the current ordinance. In the past, most of my beach encounters have been with off leash dogs that sniff me and pee on my cooler, all the while the owner claiming, “he won’t bite.” In addition, dogs are not compatible with birds and turtles that live and nest on the beach.
I do realize that many dog owners want to be able to bring their dogs to the beach. I have discussed this with Kate Burns, a dogs on the beach advocate. She has sought input from local coastal conservation groups, and they have offered suggestions regarding dogs. I would be willing to bring this up for discussion.
