Issues – Golf Carts

I prefer my bicycle to golf carts for getting around an island that is only 3 miles long, but carts are useful and fun. However, they can be loud and obnoxious. It is dangerous and destructive when they ride on the path or across the grass in Memorial or Jaycee Parks, or when they ride on the sidewalks, or when they travel on 80, but these are enforcement issues and it’s hard for the police to be everywhere all the time.

Let’s require better mufflers. Let’s establish an upper sound limit and enforce it when the carts renew their registration. I support aggressive enforcement of laws pertaining to golf carts. We need to have the occasional roadblock for golf carts looking for open containers, proper seat belt use, unlicensed drivers, proper lighting and the like, just like we do for cars on Hwy 80.
